Treeline Big National Sketch Quest – Terms & Conditions

The Treeline Big National Sketch Quest enables participants to win exciting prizes in order to promote the Treeline brand (“the Competition”).

The Competition is organized and sponsored by  BSC Stationery Sales (Pty) Ltd t/a Treeline Stationery.

These terms and conditions  set out the rules and the criteria of the Competition (“the Terms”).

In these Terms:

  •  “you/your” means any person who participates in the Competition;
  • “Parties” means you and Treeline, and “Party” means, as the context requires, either one of them;
  • “person” means any natural or juristic person, firm, company, corporation, government, state, agency or organ of a state, association, trust or partnership (whether or not having separate legal personality); and
  • “Treeline Group Entity” means any person related or affiliated with Treeline.

These Terms apply between you and Treeline. By entering to participate in the Competition, you agree to be bound by the Terms.

  1. Eligibility
  • In order to be eligible to participate in the Competition, you must be:
    • a learner aged 9 to 18 years old at the time of entry who is fully assisted by his/her parent or legal guardian, who approves and consents to the learner’s participation in the Competition and the receipt of a prize; and
    • a resident of South Africa.
  • Participation in this competition by any individual under the age of 18 requires the express written consent of a parent or legal guardian. By ticking the consent box on the online submission form, the parent or legal guardian confirms that, together with the participant, they have read and understood the Terms and give permission for the participant to enter the Competition.
  • You may not enter the Competition if you do not meet these eligibility requirements.
  • Subject to the provisions of section 10, Treeline reserves the right, at any time, to verify your identity (including, but not limited to, your age and place of residence), the written consent and assistance required from your parent or legal guardian, and to disqualify you from participating in the Competition should you fail to meet the eligibility requirements contained herein.
  • Any person who, during the Competition Period, is an employee of Treeline, or such person’s immediate relatives or related/affiliated entities, are not eligible to participate in the Competition.
  • By entering the Competition, you acknowledge that the Competition will be managed in accordance with the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (“CPA”).
  • Treeline further reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to the fullest extent permitted by law to:
    • disqualify any participant from participating in the Competition if Entry procedures, eligibility requirements, or these Terms have not been adhered to or if it detects any irregularities or fraudulent practices; or
    • modify, suspend or cancel the Competition. Neither Treeline nor any Treeline Group Entity shall not be liable for any loss or damage suffered by any participant and/or third party arising from such modification, cancellation or suspension.
  • Should these Terms be cancelled for any reason whatsoever, or should you be disqualified from participating in the Competition, in accordance with these Terms, you shall not be entitled to any benefit or right contemplated hereunder and shall have no recourse or claim whatsoever against Treeline or any Treeline Group Entity for such cancellation or disqualification.
  1. Competition Period

The Competition will run from 1 November 2025 to 13  January 2026(“the Competition Period”).

Entries received after the closing date of the Competition Period will not be considered.

  1. How to Enter

To enter the Competition:

  • Learners must create an original drawing, sketch, painting or illustration of their own design in a portrait layout (“Entry”).
  • Entries must be uploaded during the Competition Period via the official Competition entry portal on Treeline’s website accessible on the following URL:  Treelinecompetition.co.za .
  • Only one Entry per participant is allowed.
  • Each Entry must be uploaded together with all information requested by Treeline (e.g., name, age, name of school, parent/legal guardian consent and relevant contact details).

An Entry shall not be conditional on the purchase of any Treeline or Treeline Group Entity product. Entries will appear in the online public voting gallery (further explained below) on Treelinecompetition.co.za after such Entries have been screened and approved by Treeline in accordance with the specifications contained in these Terms. Entries will be posted on the online public voting gallery with the first name and age of the participant. Should there be multiple Entries with the same first name, the name and first letter of the surname of the participant shall be displayed. Should there be multiple Entries with the same first name and first letter of surname, the first and second letter of the surname shall be used.

  1. Further Requirements
  • The winning design must be redrawn by the winning participant at one of Treeline’s national offices (which are located in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban) in February 2026 for final production purposes. The winner and  one parent/legal guardian will be transported to and from the nearest national office and if  the winner does not reside in the city where the nearest national office is located, receiveone night’s accommodation (at the election of Treeline), at the expense of Treeline.
  • If the winning participant is unable to attend at one of the offices as aforesaid, the first runner-up will then become the winner.
  • Designs containing any political, religious, or discriminatory content of any kind, that promote violence, that promote illegal activities, is harmful, threatening, obscene, offensive in any way, or in any way violates the intellectual property rights of any person will immediately be disqualified and will not proceed to the public voting gallery.
  1. Judging Process
  • All Entries will be screened and approved by Treeline, following which each eligible Entry will be posted on Treeline’s website’s landing page (i.e. the online public voting gallery), where the public can vote. The online voting gallery will be open for the first round of public voting from 12h00 (SAST) on 19 January 2026 until 12h00 (SAST) on 21 January 2026.
  • The top 20 Entries, as voted by the public in the first round, will be announced on Treeline’s website and social media platforms on 21 January 2026.
  • Treeline’s judging panel will vote on the top 5 Entries from the top 20 Entries voted on by the public. The second round of voting by Treeline’s judging panel will be done from 21 January 2026 to 22 January 2026.
  • The top 5 Entries, as voted by Treeline’s judging panel in the second round, will be announced on Treeline’s website and social media platforms on 23 Janaury 2026.
  • The top 5 Entries will again appear on the online public voting gallery for the public to vote on the ultimate winner and second, third, fourth and fifth runners-up. The final round of public voting will be open from 13h00 (SAST) on 23 January 2026 until 12h00 (SAST) 30 January 2026.
  • The ultimate winner and second, third, fourth and fifth runners-up will be announced on 30 January 2026 at 16h00 (SAST) on Treeline’s website and social media platforms.
  • The outcome of any voting will be final and binding.
  1. Prizes

The winner will receive:

  • R10,000.00; and
  • R10,000.00 for the winner’s school (if applicable);
  • A Treeline Stationery Hamper valued at R1,500.00; and
  • The winning Entry will feature on Treeline Exam Pads for a production of 200,000 copies, with the possibility of reprints.

Runners-Up:

  • The 4 runners-up will each receive a Treeline Stationery Hamper valued at R1,500.00, which shall be delivered by Treeline to the address provided in each such runner-up’s Entry within seven working days from such runner-up having been announced.

Prize Payment:

  • Prize money will be paid by Treeline via EFT once your parent or legal guardian provides a copy of his/her ID and a bank confirmation letter in respect of the relevant bank account.
  • The prize money for the school (if applicable) will be paid by Treeline via EFT, directly to the school once the school provides a bank confirmation letter and a letter from the principal confirming the following details of the school: Name of school as registered as well as address of the school.
  • Payment will be made within 7 working days against receipt of the documents required by Treeline as mentioned above. Treeline will not be responsible for any loss or damages suffered as a result of being provided with incorrect banking details.
  • Prizes are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, and cannot be redeemed for cash, where applicable.
  • Treeline reserves the right to substitute, change or exchange any prize with another prize of similar commercial value, at its sole discretion. You will not have a claim against Treeline or Treeline Group Entity should Treeline elect to exercise this right.
  • Neither Treeline nor any Treeline Group Entity shall be liable for any technical and/or administrative failures affecting participation and/or prize redemption by the participants in the Competition.
  • Notwithstanding that the prizes vest with the winner and runners-up immediately upon the determination of the results, any prizes that remain unclaimed by/undeliverable to the winner and/or runners-up for any reason whatsoever despite the results having been determined and announced, after a period of one calendar month from the determination and announcement will be forfeited.
  • Treeline may, at its sole and absolute discretion, refuse to award the prizes to the winner and/or runners-up if Entry procedures, eligibility requirements, or these Terms have not been adhered to or if it detects any irregularities or fraudulent practices.
  • Treeline accepts no liability or responsibility, whether occasioned by any circumstance not foreseeable and not within its reasonable control for late or delayed performance of any obligations in these Terms including, but not limited to, stock unavailability, strikes, lock-out, destruction of offer on route to the winner and/or runners-up by any means, any civil commotion or disorder, riots, threats of war, any action taken by governmental authority or public authority of any kind, fires, explosions, storms, floods, earthquakes or other acts of God.
  1. Environmental Impact Commitment

For every 50 valid Entries received from a particular school, Treeline will endeavor to, within 30 working days   from the end date of the Competition Period or by such other later period as agreed with the particular school, plant a lemon tree at that school. Treeline reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to replace the lemon trees with a similar species or donate one on the school’s behalf as part of the Back to Your Roots movement.

  1. Parental Consent & Publicity

Subject to clause 10 below, by submitting an Entry, Treeline will require your parents or legal guardians to consent to (in addition to other consents required):

  • Treeline posting your Entry and/or winner and/or runner-up announcement on Treeline’s social media channels, including but not limited to Facebook and Instagram.
  • Treeline posting your Entry, name and surname on Treeline’s website for public voting purposes.
  • Treeline using your Entry, name and surname for marketing, publicity, and promotional purposes related to the Competition, without further compensation.

Your parents or legal guardians shall always be entitled to revoke any consents given to Treeline under these Terms or the Competition.

  1. Intellectual Property & Usage Rights
  • By entering the Competition, participants (and their parents or Legal guardians) grant Treeline and any Treeline Group Entity a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, reproduce, publish, adapt, modify, alter and display their Entries as contemplated in these Terms.
  • Nothing in these Terms is a licence or transfer to you of any of Treeline’s rights including intellectual property, copyright and/or trademarks and whether relating to the name Treeline and/or the Competition or otherwise.
  • In respect of these Terms and the Competition, Treeline is required to comply with the provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (“POPIA”) to, amongst other things, ensure the privacy and confidentiality of your Personal Information (as such term is defined in the POPIA).  
  • In order to fulfil the obligations set out in these Terms, Treeline will require your parent’s or legal guardian’s consent to process your Personal Information.
  • Your parent or legal guardian is entitled to withdraw their consent for using your Personal Information as contemplated in these Terms on notice to Treeline. In the event that your parent or legal guardian decides to withdraw their consent, Treeline will not be able to use your Personal Information for the purposes contemplated in these Terms.
  • Your Personal Information will not be used by Treeline to send you any direct marketing.   1. General

Limitation of liability

  • Neither Treeline nor any Treeline Group Entity, nor any other person or party associated with the Competition, their associated companies, agents, contractors and sponsors and any of their personnel involved in the Competition, shall be liable whatsoever for any loss or damage of whatever nature (whether direct, indirect and/or of a consequential or special nature) suffered by you incurred or suffered by you arising from either your participation in the Competition or from claiming the prizes.

Notices

  • Any notice, consent, approval or other communication in connection with these Terms will be in writing in English.
  • You agree that all notices and other documents in connection with these Terms may be delivered to you at the address(es) specified in your Entry.
  • You must notify Treeline immediately of any changes in your address(es). Any change in your address(es) will only be effective if and when Treeline receives written notification of your change of address(es).
  • You agree that Treeline may deliver notices to you to by hand, e-mail or SMS.

Transfer of rights and obligations

  • You may not at any time without Treeline’s permission:
    • transfer/cede any of your rights under these Terms to any other person; or
    • transfer/delegate any of your obligations or responsibilities under these Terms to any other person.
  • You agree that Treeline may at any time without your permission:
    • transfer/cede any of its rights under these Terms to any other person; or
    • transfer/delegate any of its obligations under these Terms to any other person.

Amendments

  • Treeline is entitled, at its absolute and sole discretion, and without notice to you, to change the terms and conditions contained herein.

Whole agreement

  • Except for Treeline’s right to amend these Terms as aforesaid, this is the whole agreement between the Parties.

Unenforceable provisions

  • If any term or condition in these Terms is unenforceable, illegal, void, or contrary to public policy then it will be deleted from these Terms. The remaining provisions of these Terms will however remain binding and in full force.

Relationship

  • The relationship between the Parties shall be governed by these Terms and nothing contained herein shall be deemed to constitute a partnership, agency or a joint venture or the like between them and neither shall they by reason of the actions of any one of them incur any liability to any third party and none of them shall be entitled to represent to any third party that the relationship between them is that of a partnership, agency, joint venture or the like as aforesaid.

Bound by term, representation, warranty or promise

  • No Party shall be bound by any express or implied term, representation, warranty, promise or the like, not recorded herein.

Benefit of third party 

  • Insofar as any prizes or benefits are paid to or derived by any school, these Terms constitute a stipulatio alteri (i.e. a contract for the benefit of third parties) and the school shall be entitled to accept such benefits under these Terms.

Governing law and resolving disputes

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
  • The Parties unconditionally consent and submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Local Division, Johannesburg in regard to all matters arising from these Terms.
  • In the event of a dispute in regard to any aspect of the Competition and/or these Terms, Treeline’s decision will be final and binding on you.
